Nissitissit River - Brookline Fishing Report

Nissitissit River Wandering

We parked alongside the ballpark on Oak Hill Rd and initially wanted to fish downstream of the bridge at the end of Bohanon Bridge Rd (I would assume that would be the Bohanon Bridge...heh, anyways), but we quickly discovered that the land downstream of the bridge was posted no trespassing per order of the Brookline Fire Department, which is understandable after seeing how easy it would be to fill a tank engine there, or to unload a stocking truck...
So, we decided to take the not posted footpath off to the left, upstream.
Sadly, we didn't have any luck in this section of the river, but, it was early and we decided to press on upstream, only to find a boggy impasse with multiple runoffs that neither of us wanted to tromp through, and the river hooked off to the right.
Back to the footpath we go...
A couple thousand feet down the path we came across one of the larger runoffs and the remains of a bridge abutment; this now footpath was probably a decent thoroughfare 100+ years ago, judging by the hitching posts and stone masonry, but today, there was no way to cross it without wading.
While we were scratching our heads trying to figure out our next move, Mike noticed a possible rise in the runoff and we both saw fish moving around in the murk. We got our lines in and I was pleased when I hooked something that wasn't a sunken log.
What I was expecting, a Fallfish or a White Sucker.
What I was hoping for, a trout of any kind.
What I caught... a Chain Pickerel.

I do have to say the Nissitissit is a picture perfect trout habitat and I certainly plan on making it one of my local haunts. I will have to try it out with a canoe or kayak at some point and I would also love to hear some of my fellow trout anglers weigh in on better spots to fish the shoreline.

Lastly but not leastly, Mike and I both picked up a couple of Deer Ticks while we were out there, just a friendly heads-up :)

(To cut down on the amount of Hotspot clutter, I don't list Bluegill or Fallfish catches unless they are a potential record.)
